“Subconscious of or concerning the part of the mind of which one is not fully aware but which influences one's actions and feelings.”
The three biases that kill productivity and growth
Sunk Cost Fallacy - We painfully read every page of a book because they feel that if they don't, the money and time is wasted. We often force ourselves through the chapters, eventually abandoning the book. If we had skimmed through the article, you would have learnt something and finished the book.
He's got high apple pie In the sky hopes So any time you're gettin' low'Stead of lettin' go Just remember that ant Oops, there goes another rubber tree plant
Confirmation Bias - All of us have deep-rooted beliefs in our subconscious. These are things that we are taught or learnt from experience. This often forces us to look/see information to enforce our beliefs. Faith in religion is an example. Positive events are seen as miracles and results of prayers. Tragedies on the other hand are seen as a ‘test of faith’. Fake news spread for a reason - you see what you want to see.
The anchoring effect - Getting caught on the first information that's laid out to you. We rarely say, “it doesn't cost that much. I will pay you $30” instead, we say, “I am willing to pay $75 instead” for a $90 shoe. This is because we were given a piece of information, the shoe costs $90, and we think believe anything less than that is a steal.
There are 180 cognitive biases. I believe these three are easy to catch and being aware of all if not all even some of them would make a world's difference in the long term.
